What people check a domain for

Is it safe to trust?

A shop or sender registered last week is a very different risk from one registered in 2009. Age, registrar and nameservers are the quickest first signals.

When does it expire?

Check your own domains, a competitor's, or a name you want. Days-to-expiry is calculated for you.

Why does my email land in spam?

See the MX provider, whether SPF exists and which DMARC policy is published. Missing records are the usual cause.

Look up a whole list, by API

Doing this for hundreds of domains: a lead list, a brand-protection watchlist, a portfolio? The same checks run behind one call that takes a list, falls back to WHOIS for TLDs without RDAP (.io, .co, .de and more), and returns age and days-to-expiry computed for each domain.

curl https://siftwright.com/v1/domain-whois \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sw_live_YOUR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"domains": ["stripe.com", "github.io", "bbc.co.uk"]}'

Plans start at $29/month, and failed lookups are free. Prefer pay-as-you-go? The same tool is on the Apify Store at $1 per 1,000 domains.

Frequently asked questions

Is this domain WHOIS lookup free?

Yes. No account and no watermark. Each network gets a daily allowance (40 lookups) so the tool stays free for everyone, and results are cached for an hour.

Is this WHOIS or RDAP?

RDAP, the JSON protocol that ICANN requires gTLD registries to run in place of the old text WHOIS. Answers come straight from the registry, so dates and registrars are structured data, not parsed text. Some country TLDs have no RDAP service; the API falls back to classic WHOIS for those.

Why is the owner's name missing?

Since GDPR, registries and registrars redact registrant names, emails and phone numbers for almost every domain. We show only what is published: the registrar, dates, status codes and nameservers.

How is domain age calculated?

From the registry's registration event to today. A domain that was dropped and re-registered shows the newer date, which is the one registries report.

What do SPF and DMARC tell me?

They are DNS records that tell receiving mail servers which senders are allowed for a domain. A missing SPF record or a DMARC policy of p=none means anyone can spoof the domain more easily. The lookup shows both records exactly as published.

Does it work for subdomains?

It looks up the registrable domain: blog.example.co.uk is reported as example.co.uk, because that is the name a registry holds.

Can I look up a whole list of domains?

Not here. The Domain WHOIS & DNS Lookup Actor and the /v1/domain-whois API take lists, with WHOIS fallback, and only successful lookups are charged.
